About us

bikesWe’re a club established to promote road cycling in the Ratoath, Dunshaughlin and Ashbourne area. Contact us for more information.

The Ratoath Wheelers Road Cycling Club was formed in January 2014 and is affiliated with Cycling Ireland. Cycling Ireland is the National Governing Body for the sport of cycling on the island of Ireland.

The primary goal of the club is to promote and develop the sport of cycling in the Ratoath, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne and surrounding areas. The club has a leisure focus with club members participating in club group rides at weekends and weekday evenings. Club rides are from 50 – 150km in length depending on the time of year and day of the week. Club members are encouraged to participate in any of the great sportives run across the country during the year. There are a wide variety of sportives to choose from which typically take place at weekends from March to October and are generally 50 – 200km in length.

The club has a strong link with the hugely successful Irish Cyclist Nicholas Roche via a link up with the Nicholas Roche Performance Team (NRPT). The NRPT is a youth cycling team established to select and develop some of Irelands most talented junior cyclists.

The RWCC is keen to focus on the significant social aspect of cycling. Regular club weekends away to cycle around different parts of the country or even Europe will be organised. These weekends present an opportunity for members to get to know one another better and to enjoy cycling new or more challenging routes in different areas. Longer club spins will have a coffee stop to allow group riders to have a break and refuel and to enjoy a chat.

The RWCC believes that the promotion and development of sporting groups is extremely important as participation in sport is hugely beneficial for both the physical and mental wellbeing of participants. The club identifies that the promotion of the sport of cycling will have a strong positive impact on the mental and physical well being of all our members.
